I would love to see Gwen trapped in the catacombs by the charr.

you would fight through an extremely hard and overpopulated level (lots of mesmers and necros...good ones [not deathhands]) and reach and underground outpost.
In this outposts there would be many quests that require venturing back out into the catacombs (This time the monsters are stronger and higher level due to the quests). These quests would come from Gwen (Who is a W/E) and other people who were tortured by the charr. Once you do all of Gwen's quests she would become a henchman that would help with the later quests. (In fact you would have to earn all of your henchmen this way...as none of the normal henchmen would be down there)

The more quests you do for a person the more other people start offering quests and the harder they all become.

I would like to see the catacombs reopened a sort of small UW.What is the connection between that and the desert and that green ghost you see on the outside in pre? There is lots of places I would like to see opened up more Tyria.

I posted an actual theory on this in Riverside a month or so ago.

No way. She's Mo/E or E/Mo for sure.

GREAT idea. I really miss that part........man that makes me want to start a new character (which I can't unfortunately) and clear the cats which I never did entirely

ACTUALLY.........everyone who bought pre-order, there's a key for a 10 hour free trial of Prophecies.........I think I'll use that just for fun!

The catacombs was one of the most intriguing place in pre-seering, mysterious and fun to explore. I would so love to see it brought back, bigger and badder than ever. The newly reexcavated catacomb should seem familiar to anyone who has ventured there before, and with the new (and very cool) layer idea, it would be interesting to see just how far and how deep the catacombs can get.

With each succeeding layers, the Catacomb becomes darker, stronger enemies begin to appear in larger numbers, going deeper... the exploration slowly becomes survival. By the 5th layer, hot lava spews from every corner of the cave, trying not to get burned becomes an ordeal in itself. By then the enemy levels range from 26 - 28 and comes in a group of 8.

To match it with the storyline, the enemy type should definitely be Charrs, and if possible, maybe some lvl 29 Chaos Titans, escaped from "Last Day Dawns" quest.

Of course to top it off, you'll need some climactic boss. Deep within the burning bowels of the Catacomb in a pool of molten magma, lays the mother of all Titans, awaken by the Vizier's spell is the lvl 31 Queen Titan! (Defeating her would be a feat comparable to defeating Glint.) Her reward would be enormous of course

This is also a great chance to explore the lore of Ascalon, perhaps ancient artifacts that date way before the pre-seering age reveal a darker past, a darker history, of Ascalon and Kryta, how these two mighty kingdoms may once be united...

... and the greatest part about going into a cave.... is coming out the otherside, and find yourself on the otherside of the world. Near the watchtower coast, drenched in sweat and blood, our warriors have returned ... victorously.

I'd love to see something like this... Guild Wars needs more underground explorable areas.

*boots up Pre-Searing map*

You'll note that 2 of the 3 Catacombs entrances (near Barradin's Estate and Wizard's Folly) are in unexplored areas on the Post-Searing map. So, just add a new Ascalon explorable area that leads to one or both (there would also be other Pre-Searing features, like the ruined Estate or Wizard's Tower). Easy way to prevent low-levels from getting in would be to add a guard that won't let non-Ascended characters in (new monsters have made it their home since the Searing, and they're keeping people from wandering down there).

Since the only entrances are in Ascalon, it'd be a 4-man dungeon crawl, with groups meeting in Sardelec. (Or, to make things more convienent and to prevent 6-man Yak's Bend groups, add a 4-man outpost in front of the entrance that people have to pass through to get to it.)

Due to the smaller group sizes, the monsters would be slightly underpowered, but it'd still be quite challenging. I don't care so much about a linear path (i.e. Tombs) to follow so much as just big explorable areas that you can get yourself lost in (much like the original Catacombs).

Dangit, now I'm all nostalgiac... *boots up a Pre-Searing character*

OH maybe these could have like traps and stuff, like in the original catacombs so you need other people to help because you can't set them off like without a MM or you'd die, or if you're a warrior you could get a signet you could only use down there that would block arrows from traps for x amount of time,

this would be soo cool to do, and make it for a more interesting and frustrating time because people WOULDN'T be able to farm it (by themselves) just like the Tomb

I'd love a new high level area to explore. And I'll step on board for a "Save Gwen" quest as well. Just make it stupid hard, we'll live.

Also, please give us a reason for our Tapestry Shreds! That would be awesome as well!

How old was Gwen in presearing, 10? 12? I think too young to be able to qualify here as a henchman 2 years later. About the main catacombs idea: I think it's a good idea, the map could be altered so there have happened some collapses due to the searing, some crystals you can see sticking out of the ceiling,... It's doable to make it, as the Sorrows Furnace update. However I don not think it would be a good idea to put Charr down there, it doesn't really match the lore, since they are all driven behind the wall.

/signed would really love to be able to go back in there. only thing that concerns me is 55 monks with smiting skills, if it's like it was in pre.. since it doubles the damage.. (100 damage from SoJ... or around 74 from Balt Aura.. for example)

Hello everybody!

First I want to thank you for your support again. Hope ArenaNet will think about the catacombs thoroughly.

The ideas on the petition page will be updated soon. We'll write something about gwen quests and about the outposts after every layer because we think both are really nice.

A perfect area for super tricky + badass monsters combinations?

/signed

I just hope we won't have something like "wave and wave of spiders" kind of boring layout.

I still remember that kurzick area that was similar to the catacombs. with big statues all of sudden turn on you... that was really nice. Although I think it get a bit old eventually thou... Is there any way one can make this kind of surprise always a surprise?

That would be great! Evil Gwen climbing out of the deep and dark hole in the ground with a red glow in her eyes...

I like that very much but I don't think ArenaNet would do it like this
